Monash Health, in collaboration with the Cancer Council Victoria and the Southern Melbourne Integrated Cancer Service, held a focus group on 18 November 2019 for members of the Chinese community who have experienced cancer or have cared for a loved one with cancer.
The group assisted the Cancer Council Victoria in adapting the Living with Cancer Education Program (LWECP) to encompass the Chinese communities’ language, cultural needs and ensure that the program provides meaningful support to their community.
The Monash Health Interpreting Service translated the materials used to communicate with the group and were invaluable in providing language support on the day.
A special mention to our consumer Viv Interrigi who organised culturally appropriate food, gifts and music for the day.
It is anticipated that the new Mandarin Living with Cancer Education Program will be held at Moorabbin Hospital, Monash Health in early 2020.
