On 21-23 August 2019, The Australian Gastro-intestinal Trials Group (AGITG) held their Annual Scientific Meeting. Dr Simon Wilkins, a Senior Research Fellow at the Cabrini Institute and Monash University’s School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, received the award for Best Fast Forward Presentation on the topic ‘The effect of oversewing double stapled anastomoses in oncological colorectal surgery.’

The awards recognised outstanding research in the field of gastro-intestinal cancer, and Dr Wilkins was among seven researchers to receive acknowledgement of their innovative contributions. Dr Wilkins said he was thrilled to win the Best of Fast Forward talks, which were rapid-fire 3 Minute talks.

“The AGITG Annual Scientific Meeting 2019 in Adelaide was a well-organised-meeting with excellent international and local speakers discussing numerous aspects of colorectal cancer, the microbiome, molecular targets, pancreatic cancer, and current clinical trials,” Dr Wilkins said.

“I look forward to attending next year’s meeting in Melbourne.”
