As we reach the end of 2019, we reflect on many fine achievements across our partner organisations and close the year with two sentiments in mind: gratitude and hope. We are grateful for the clinicians, scientists, researchers, project teams, and patients who have contributed to the innovative research and service improvement programs we have delivered. We also look to the future feeling confident that this work will bring hope to many people affected by cancer.

MPCCC has made inroads into addressing some pervasive challenges in the healthcare system this year, coordinating multi-disciplinary pilots and programs targeted at improving quality of life and treatment outcomes for cancer patients. Southern Melbourne Integrated Cancer Service (SMICS) has continued to drive the Optimal Care Pathways in six tumour streams and collaborating with other ICS on state-wide projects in pancreatic and geriatric oncology to reduce unwarranted variations in patient care.

We recognise that excellence in research is integrally linked with service improvement, and strive to continue our collaborative efforts to improve cancer services in our region in 2020. We wish our community a peaceful and happy end of year break, and look forward to reconnecting with you in the New Year.
