How to Get Involved in the Molecular Screening and Therapeutics Study
MPCCC’s Precision Oncology Program acts as a central co-ordination hub for patient referrals into the MoST study from health services across south-eastern Victoria.
Participating health services include MPCCC partners (Alfred Health, Cabrini Health, Monash Health, Epworth Health, Peninsula Health, Eastern Health) plus any other hospitals in the region that are interested in becoming an affiliate (current examples include Latrobe Regional Health, St John of God, Peninsula Private and Wonthaggi Hospital).
The MPCCC acts as a single point of contact for participating health services, and works with referring clinicians to:
- facilitate the patient recruitment and referral process
- co-ordinate retrieval of archival tumour biopsy material from the pathology service provider,
- ensure that the appropriate histopathology report is supplied,
- ensure that the referring oncologist receives the final Molecular Report from the AGCMC, recommending appropriate treatments or clinical trials.
This is a very complex area with many clinical, logistic and other considerations including drug availability and tolerability. It is therefore critical that the results of each patients’ tumour profiling are discussed with a multi-disciplinary team at an MPCCC Molecular Tumour Board meeting to best inform the patient treatment plan.
